PERFORMANCE : FLAMINGO
In FLAMINGO, choreographer Remy Tilburg creates a visually and physically powerful dance universe in which nature is given a voice. Dancers transform into mythical flamingo characters, together bringing an alternative reality to life. FLAMINGO is a poetic and urgent production about evolution, freedom and identity — a dance fairy tale for the 21st century, in which the fragile balance between humankind and nature becomes tangible, and our impact on the climate and the world we inhabit quietly reverberates throughout.
Inspired by fairy tales, comic books and his Surinamese heritage, Tilburg creates a world in which flamingos do not merely dominate — they shift the way we see.
For everyone who loves dance with imagination, depth and a story that stays with you.
This production is a follow-up to the short piece Flamingo that Tilburg previously created for Ballett Theater Trier in Germany.
Please note: SoundShirts are available for deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members, making both the music and certain dance movements perceptible through touch — a truly unique experience. Please indicate this when booking your tickets.
REVIEW
"A magnificent interpretation of nature.
…Finally, the most sensuously lavish work of the evening with Remy Tilburg's choreography. The young Dutchman is a great creator of images and a poet. The choreographer captures the power, vitality and elegance of flamingos and their ability to fly free in sweeping images of almost Old Master beauty and at times symphonic quality. With subtle humour, Tilburg brings these long-legged, long-necked birds to life as social creatures whose behaviour is at times surprisingly human."
